As much as I love Chinese takeout, it's gotten so expensive for my family as my kids have gotten older and we have to order so many things. So I love to do a "takeout" night at home that doesn't cost nearly as much and still tastes just as delicious.
And this recipe is even better because it's made in the slow cooker so you really don't have to do much work!
Just pop everything in the slow cooker before you leave for the day and when you get home, you add the broccoli and let it go for another 30 minutes. In that time, you can cook your rice and be ready to serve dinner!

Ingredients
- Sirloin steak - this is a fairly inexpensive cut of steak, especially when you really only need one steak for this recipe. It gets incredibly tender when slow cooked.
- Beef broth - use low-sodium broth if it's available to you. You can always add salt at the end if you need to.
- Soy sauce - I recommend low-sodium soy sauce so that your finished dish isn't too salty. You can also use tamari or coconut aminos if you are gluten free.
- Sesame oil - a tiny bit adds so much flavor!
- Brown sugar - beef and broccoli sauce has just a slight sweetness.
- Garlic - garlic makes everything better!
- Cornstarch - this is the thickened for the sauce. You are going to create a slurry by whisking cornstarch into cold water. And then let that cook in the sauce for about 30 minutes.
- Frozen broccoli florets - these get added in the last 30 minutes of cook time. They cook perfectly inside the sauce.

How To Make Slow Cooker Beef and Broccoli
- Prep. Place sirloin strips in bottom of slow cooker.
- Make sauce. Stir together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, seseame oil, and garlic. Pour over the steak and stir.
- Cook. Slow cook on high for 3 - 4 hours or low for 6 - 7 hours, until steak is very tender.
- Make slurry. About 30 minutes before the end of cooking time, whisk cornstarch into cold water. Pour into slow cooker.
- Add broccoli. Stir in broccoli.
- Continue cooking. Keep cooking about 30 minutes until broccoli is cooked through and sauce has thickened.
How Long Is It Good For?
Beef and broccoli will be good for up to 3 days. Make sure to store it in an airtight container in the fridge.
You can reheat in the microwave when you are ready to serve it.

Can You Freeze It?
You can freeze beef and broccoli for up to 3 months. Let it cool completely and then transfer to an airtight, freezer-safe container and place in freezer.
When you are ready to serve it, let it defrost overnight in the fridge and reheat in the microwave.
What To Serve With It
I like to serve beef and broccoli with plain white rice. Rice is the perfect thing to soak up any extra sauce you have.
If you have a few extra minutes, you can do quick fried rice!
I also always like to serve it with hot sauce on the side. Use your favorite, we usually go for sriracha.
