Teriyaki Ground Beef is going to be your new favorite weeknight dinner! Ground beef simmered in sweet and savory teriyaki sauce and served over rice. It’s ready in just 20 minutes!
I love ground beef recipes for weeknight dinners. There is nothing easier than cooking a pan of ground beef with some seasonings and whisking together a quick sauce.
This Teriyaki Ground Beef if one of my go-to dinners when I don’t have time or don’t feel like cooking. There’s minimal prep involved and less than 10 ingredients!
I always get a rice cooker going before I start the ground beef so that everything is ready all at once.
Plus, everyone loves it! I always double the recipe so that we have leftovers the next day.
Why You’re Going To Love This Recipe
- It is so delicious! Teriyaki sauce is always a crowd-pleaser so everyone loves this recipe. It’s slightly sweet but not overly so.
- Ground beef cooks in less than 15 minutes! And that’s including time for the sauce to simmer and thicken. I had the rice going in the rice cooker when I cooked the beef and it was all done around the same time.
- It’s made with pantry ingredients! I didn’t have to buy a single thing for this recipe. It’s perfect for a week when you’re trying to save some money or you just don’t feel like going to the grocery store.
Ingredients
- Sesame oil – this adds a really great sesame flavor to the dish but if you don’t have it, you can use olive oil or avocado oil
- Ground beef – you can use ground turkey or chicken if you prefer or just want to make the dish a little lighter.
- Onion – you can use any color onion for this recipe.
- Garlic – use 1 teaspoon of garlic powder if you want to substitute the fresh garlic.
- Soy sauce – I suggest using low-sodium soy sauce so the finished dish doesn’t turn out too salty. You can always add more salt after tasting it. For gluten-free, use coconut aminos or tamari.
- Brown sugar – this gives the sauce that sweet teriyaki flavor without being overly sweet.
- Honey – just a little bit to give it a honey flavor and make the sauce a little sticky.
- Rice Vinegar – you can find this in any large grocery store in either the vinegar section or the Asian foods section.
- Ground ginger – you can use fresh ginger if you have it.
- Sesame seeds – I used toasted sesame seeds but you can use whatever you prefer.
- Green onions – for sprinkling on top of the finished dish.
How To Make Teriyaki Ground Beef
- Cook. Cook ground beef, onion, and garlic in sesame oil until beef is cooked through.
- Make sauce. Whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, and ground ginger.
- Combine. Pour sauce over ground beef and let simmer until sauce is thickened.
- Garnish. Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top before serving.
What To Serve With it
I recommend serving teriyaki ground beef over cooked rice with sliced green onions and sesame seeds on top.
For side dishes, I think any roasted green vegetable is perfect with it. Like roasted broccoli or green beans. If you want to make things really simple, one of those microwavable bags of vegetables is perfect to go with this.
How Long Is It Good For?
Teriyaki ground beef will be fine in the fridge for up to 3 days. Make sure to store it in an airtight container.
You can reheat it in the microwave or on the stovetop. If you want to make it saucy again, add a splash of water and broth and let it simmer until it all comes together again.
Can You Freeze It?
You can freeze this ground beef for up to 3 months. Let it cool completely and then put it in a freezer ziploc bag or other freezer-safe container.
Let it defrost overnight in the fridge when you are ready to serve it. Reheat it on the stovetop or in the microwave.
